The Orbera® Intragastric Balloon was approved by the FDA to help people with a BMI of 30-40. In a clinical trial, people who had the gastric balloon procedure lost more than three times the amount of weight as compared with diet and exercise alone within six months and were able to maintain significant weight loss six months after the removal of the device. The gastric balloon procedure allowed patients to achieve 38% excess weight loss. Combine with medication management and the nutrition guidance and fitness tips Nicholson Clinic offers, and you could lose as much as 50 percent of your excess weight in just six months. If further toning and tightening is desired, an abdominal wall reconstruction may be added as well, also leading to further weight loss as well as improved cosmetic appearance.
A deflated balloon is inserted into your stomach and then it is filled to the size of a grapefruit. The entire process usually takes 20 minutes and most people go home hours later.
