Post-Op Diet


The 30 Day Post-Op Liquid Diet (order 1 week prior to surgery)

You will need to order your liquid diet so that you will have it when you get home from surgery. The Relaunch™ website has a Post-op pack that consists of three containers of medical grade protein.

In addition to ReLaunch™ protein, you will also need the following vitamins.

  • High Quality Chewable Multivitamin such as:
    • Bariatric Advantage Chewable Complete – Take 2 daily. Available at www.bariatricadvantage.com
    • Centrum Adult Chewable Tablet (not gummy) – take 2 daily
  • B12 1000mcg sublingual – Can use any brand – Dissolve 1 tablet or drop (if using liquid product) under tongue daily
  • Calcium Citrate Chewable 500mg – 1 three times daily for total of 1500mg daily
    • Upcal with D3 Unflavored Calcium Crystals- use 1 packet 3 times daily. Easily mixes with ReLaunch unflavored protein recipes. Available at globalhp.com
    • Bariatric Advantage 500mg chewable calcium tablets- take 1 three times daily
  • Vitamin D3 – 2000 to 3000 units daily. Can use any brand and can use capsules as they are small
  • Iron Chewable – 18mg (men and postmenopausal women) and 27-45mg daily if premenopausal female. Note: All gastric bypass patients will need to consume at least 36 mg of iron daily
    • Bariatric Advantage Chewable Iron

Post-Op Diet for Sleeve Gastrectomy/Gastric Bypass
Stage I:
Full Liquids
Day 1-21

You will need to start this diet the day you come home from the hospital. Following a full liquid diet for the first 3 weeks after surgery will give your body time to heal. This diet will also help you begin to understand how much food you can eat before you feel too full. This is a time of learning new behaviors and developing new lifestyle habits. 1-2 oz. of fluid should be sipped every 10-15 minutes while awake. Try to consume (sip) at least 4 oz. of liquids every hour. All liquids must be very thin. It must be able to flow through a strainer easily. Post-Op Diet for Sleeve Gastrectomy/Gastric Bypass
Stage II:
Soft Solid Foods (3-4 oz per meal)
Day 22-42

Start this diet at post-op Day 22 and continue for 3 weeks. This is still time learning about your new body. Let your pouch be your guide on portion sizes. Stop eating before you feel full. Remember overeating can lead to nausea, vomiting, and stretching out your stomach. For more info, sample menus and recipe ideas see Post-op Guidelines Phase 2.

Stage I:
Full Liquids
Day 1-21

You will need to start this diet the day you come home from the hospital. Following a full liquid diet for the first 3 weeks after surgery will give your body time to heal. It is important to record your intake of fluid to make sure you are consuming at least 60 oz of fluid daily.
