Plano, TX, March 28, 2016 – Nicholson Clinic is pleased to announce that it is one of the first practices in the DFW area to offer the ReShape® Integrated Dual Balloon, an FDA approved, first-of-its-kind non-surgical weight loss procedure for people with mild to moderate obesity. This alternative to bariatric surgery provides an effective weight loss option for adults with a Body Mass Index of 30-40 and a related health condition. The procedure is meant for those who have had little success with diet and exercise alone and do not wish to have or do not qualify for bariatric surgery.

“The ReShape procedure provides an excellent way for us to fill a significant gap that has long existed in treatment options for people who are obese and do not qualify for or do not want to undergo bariatric surgery,” says Dr.  Nick Nicholson, founder and lead surgeon at the North Texas-based Nicholson Clinic, one of the top weight loss surgery centers in the country.  “ReShape provides those who are considered ‘in-between patients’ access to a non-surgical, reversible alternative to more invasive surgery that can produce lasting results.”

Dr. Brian Long is the first surgeon at Nicholson Clinic trained in the use of the new procedure.

ReShape has proven itself tremendously beneficial for those looking for a reversible alternative to weight loss surgery that costs less and doesn’t involve a dramatic recovery time,” says Dr. Long. “The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, during which the ReShape Dual Balloon is inserted into the stomach. It remains there for six months, providing patients with built-in portion control to assist them as they undergo diet and exercise coaching sessions and access the ReShape Patient Portal to gain support needed for their weight loss journeys.”

It is estimated that 78 million adults in the United States are obese. The American Medical Association officially classified obesity, which is defined as a BMI of 30 or higher, as a disease in 2013. The condition can lead to such serious health complications as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and some forms of cancer.

In an FDA clinical study of 326 patients conducted at eight sites in the United States, patients with ReShape experienced 2.3 times more excess weight loss at six months compared to those who utilized a diet and exercise program alone.  In the clinical trial, patients lost up to 72 pounds in 12 months.
