Transformation Stories: Isabela

Jul 25, 2023

Eight years ago, Isabela had gastric bypass surgery with Dr. Nicholson. She has lost a total of 200 pounds AND maintained her weight loss! This is her story.

Life Before Surgery

“Before surgery, I had a pretty normal life, but with certain limitations. I found myself in pain often from carrying around the excess weight. I knew I needed surgery for a few years before I had the opportunity to have it. I was only 22 years old at the time and knew that if I wanted to have a full life I needed to make a change.”

My Nicholson Clinic Experience
“The process was very easy. The staff did all the coordinating with my insurance and advised me where to go for the specialty pre-op testing. Dr. Nicholson was and continues to be incredible. I ended up needing hernia surgery in 2021, and he was just as great. He’s also been so encouraging with my results.”

Life After Surgery
“Life is so much better now because nothing holds me back! It took a few years, but I found what physical activities I truly enjoy that have helped keep me on track. Mentally, I am so much more confident and carefree. I don’t worry that I’m being watched simply because of my size. I also have the outlook that this surgery gave me a second chance at life. This helps keep me mentally on track as well. I don’t want to ruin all the hard work I’ve done.

“As cliche as it sounds, it comes down to a lifestyle change. I’m not perfect by any means, but I’m very aware of my choices. I’ll still indulge in treats and whatever I may be craving, but 90% of the time I am making sure my nutrition is where I want it to be. I also make sure I exercise regularly.”

Advice for Others Considering Surgery
“Know that this journey is not linear. I used to compare myself to other weight loss surgery patients on social media and feel like I wasn’t progressing quickly enough. Plateaus are very normal and sometimes can last over a year. As long as you’re staying consistent, and keeping your goals in focus, you’ll get there!”
