Hit the Reset Button: 10 Tips to Get Back on Track this Summer

Jun 01, 2015

• TROPICAL •• TASTE •Summertime is the halfway point of the year. It’s the perfect time to reevaluate where you stand with your New Year’s Resolutions, or your health and fitness goals for the year.

Have you fallen off track?

If so, you are not alone. In fact, a majority of people who set goals or resolutions at the beginning of the year don’t even make it through February before giving up. But don’t let a temporary derailment throw you off course for the second half of the year.

Let this new season serve as a reminder of why you made those goals in the first place, and take this time hit “reset” and get back on track with your nutrition and exercise habits. The spring rains have ended and you’ve got some extra time in each day before sunset—there’s no better time than now to get outside for some fresh air, enjoy your natural surroundings, and get in a good workout.

Do you need some help staying on track with your health and fitness goals? Here are 10 principles to keep in mind when setting your goals and along the journey.

  1. Identify changes you can make gradually.
  2. Set specific, realistic goals. Think long-term.
  3. Surround yourself with people who will support you. Reevaluate any negative relationships.
  4. Anticipate and visualize how you plan to handle eating out and social events.
  5. Focus on how you feel and find motivation in that.
  6. Practice positive self-talk, immediately countering any negative thoughts.
  7. Don’t let a “bad day” derail you. Get up and start again.
  8. Remember it’s about progress, not perfection.
  9. Avoid mindless eating.
  10. Celebrate the small victories.

Make this summer a time to focus on you. Reset your mind, connect with a group of people who will support you, renew your motivation, and get back on track toward a lifestyle of health and fitness.
